On the 31st of May, 2009, Dr George Tiller was murdered by an anti-woman, far right, white male terrorist. To maximize the terror, Dr Tiller was killed in broad daylight, in his church, with his friends, family and fellow parishioners in the room.

On May 26th, 2017, three men were stabbed, two fatally, by a white supremacist on a MAX train in Portland, Oregon. The three men were trying to come to the defense of two women who were being harassed by an enraged racist, who turned out to be armed and very dangerous.

May 24th is a good day to remember that the current prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has long enjoyed immense bipartisan support in the US Congress. On this date in 2011, Netanyahu gave a hawkish speech to both houses of Congress, during which he received 29 standing ovations with extended bouts of applause. This for a man leading a nation that refuses to say where, exactly, its borders are.

Mawda Shawri Killed

On May 17th, 2018, police in Belgium shot at a van full of refugees because the driver refused to pull over.  A two-year-old Kurdish girl, Mawda Shawri, was shot and killed.

The Naqba

May 15th, 1948 is known by the state of Israel as Independence Day. Palestinians call it the Naqba, or the Catastrophe. In the course of the previous year, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled their lands in terror.

MS St Louis Set Sail

On May 13th, 1939, a ship set sail from Hamburg, Germany, heading towards North America. It had 937 passengers, overwhelmingly Jews trying to get out of Nazi Germany, and other Jews trying to flee Europe, including Anne Frank's father, Otto, from Amsterdam.

Death of Francis Hughes

On May 12th, 1981, Irish Republican Army volunteer Francis Hughes died on hunger strike. He would be the second of ten men to die on hunger strike in 1981, after Bobby Sands, who died after winning an election to the British Parliament, while in prison.
